U.S. Retail Sales fall, Producer Prices decline. U.S. dollars mixed in Forex Trading.
U.S. Retail Sales decreased for the fifth month in a row in November, according to a report by the U.S. Commerce Department released today. Advance estimates of November retail sales showed that sales decreased by 1.8 percent to $ 355.7 billion from October. On an annual basis, retail sales have decreased by 4.7 percent from the November 2007 level. U.S. GDP contracted by 0.5% in 3rd Qtr, New and Existing Home Sales fall. U.S. dollars in mixed Fx Trading
The U.S. economy contracted in the 3rd quarter of 2008 according to the latest release by the U.S. Commerce Department. The final estimate report released today showed that the U.S. Gross Domestic Product equaled the previous estimate released in November and contracted at an annual rate of 0.5 percent in the July to September quarter. The second quarter GDP grew by a 8.2 percent annual rate of growth and the 1st quarter advanced by 0.9 percent. U.S. Nonfarm jobs drop by 524k in December. Unemployment rate hits 16-year high.
U.S. Non-farm Payrolls employment data released today showed that jobs fell by more than 500 000 for the second straight month in December. The non-farm payrolls Department of Labor report showed that US payrolls shed 524,000 jobs in December, following a revised drop of 584,000 jobs in November. The November payrolls data had showed a originally decline of 533,000 jobs and the number of job losses total in 2008 extended to 2.6 million. The two straight months of over 500 000 jobs Lost marked a first in the history of the government report.
