What is Forex
The foreign exchange market also known as FOREX is the largest financial market in the world with a daily volume of over four trillion dollars. Compared with the 25 billion dollars a day volume that the NYSE trades can easily notice how big is the foreign exchange market. Currently equals more than three times the total number of shares and futures markets combined.
To be traded on the foreign exchange market?
The simple answer is money. The FOREX business is the sale of one currency and simultaneously buying another. Currencies are traded through a broker and are traded in pairs, for example the euro and U.S. dollar EUR / USD or the pound sterling and Japanese yen.
This type of business can be confusing because they are not buying anything physical. Consider buying a currency as buying a piece of a particular country. When you buy the Japanese yen, say you are in effect buying a piece of the Japanese economy as the price of the currency is a direct reflection of what the market thinks of the present and future health of the Japanese economy.
In general, the exchange rate of one currency against other currencies is a reflection of the condition of U.S. economy compared to the economies of other countries.
Unlike other financial markets like the NYSE the FOREX market is considered an over the counter market or inter bank given the fact that the entire market flows electronically between a network of banks continuously over a period of 24 hours. Read the rest of this entry »
