The IEA waits for an important cut of OPEC
January 26th, 2010
The Agency the International of Energia (AIE) has indicated that the next week the Organization of Exporting Petroleum Countries (OPEC) will have to realise an important cut in her petroleum production since hopes that the demand of crude is contracted for the first time in a quarter of century.
In his but recent monthly report on the market of petroleum, the agency confirmed what many analysts considered saying that OPEC has only realised half of the production reductions that have accepted, which has taken to that the price of the barrel approaches the forty dollars, more than one hundred dollars below the record reached in July.
According to the considered ones of the IEA, the petroleum necessity
of OPEC will be between 30,5 and 31 million daily barrels during the 2009, very below the present production, that reaches the 31,3 million barrels and that have allowed that the developed countries maintain considerable reserves.
Without doubts the fall in the demand has been greater to the hoped one, considering that generally the IEA is against the cuts of OPEC, but this fall has been so impressive that it threatens affecting the long term investments of the industry, which could end up affecting the production within some years.
Returning to the study, the IEA also it emphasizes that the reduction of production in countries like Ecuador, Venezuela, Libya and Iran has been smaller to the hoped thing in November, something that seems strange considering that Venezuela and Iran have been those that have made more noise in OPEC to realise great productive cuts.
When observing this situation, Robert Laughlin, a Global analyst of MF, have said that if the members of OPEC want to see a barrel 30 dollars would have to leave the production to the present level, but want to modify this tendency will have to immediately cut the production in 1.5 million daily barrels.
In spite of all considered, many experts know that before realising any cut, the members of OPEC have had to respect the cut of 2 million announced daily barrels for several months and that it has been rejected by many of those countries.
